Our Story

It all started in March 2023, during an outing to the mountains that led us to buy equipment that we only needed for one day. Shortly afterwards, we realised that our surroundings would have offered to lend us the same equipment and that, on other occasions, they had also had to buy items for one-time use. This made us reflect on the accumulation of objects that we use on a one-off basis and the ecological impact that this entails.

We live in an economic system that is not compatible with the finite nature of the planet's resources. It is clear that we need to rethink how we produce and consume to ensure a sustainable future. Inspired by community initiatives such as The Library of Things and the idea of sharing rather than owning, we decided to create a platform that facilitates easy and safe borrowing and renting.

Our aim is to contribute to transforming the economic system towards a more ecological and sustainable one. We envision a world where the production of goods has a minimal ecological impact, limited to what the planet can replenish. We envision a future where consumption is based on the purchase of services rather than products, thus encouraging a more efficient and conscious use of resources. Our mission is clear: to contribute to changing the way we produce and consume by creating a decentralised and local product rental and lending system. We do this by facilitating access to products without the need to buy them.

We realised that many people were willing to share their belongings, either to reduce waste, save money or simply because they believe in the idea of community collaboration. However, there was a lack of a safe and easy-to-use mechanism for this sharing. WeShare is more than just about sharing objects between individuals, it is also about supporting local businesses that offer rental and repair services, and associations, allowing them to share resources with each other and create associative fabric. We strongly believe in the importance of boosting the local economy, strengthening communities and reducing our environmental footprint.

We knew that this project had a lot of potential, but that it also required a lot of effort. We started researching, developing and finally, after more than a year of work, we launched our platform in the summer of 2024, allowing users to start renting and lending objects in a simple way. The freedom from reliance on external funding has allowed us to design and develop the app based on our own values and principles, rather than being tied to the pressures and demands of the market. This has allowed us to prioritise sustainability, community collaboration and the circular economy in every aspect of the platform, ensuring that WeShare is a tool that truly reflects our vision of more conscious and responsible consumption.

We are committed to continuing to improve our platform to make it more useful and accessible to everyone. We thank our community for their support and are excited for what the future holds.
